The Ford Soccer Club was formed in 1992 by Fritz Nelson as a way for Ford Motor Company employees to get together and play soccer.  It has come a long way from the original pick-up games played in the field near the old Edison High School (now just a parking lot for PDC test vehicles).  Today there are nine outdoor summer teams (six men, three women) that play teams from all over the Southeastern Michigan area.  We've even been known to travel down to Columbus, OH, for a weekend scrimmage.  But as fun as our summer leagues are, we get our best attendance during the winter with our many indoor leagues. As the membership in the Ford Soccer Club has grown, so have the number of indoor soccer arenas around Detroit.  During the winter there are over 250 Ford Soccer Club members playing soccer at least once per week.

Diversity is a big part of the Ford Soccer Club.  Our success is in no small part due to Ford being a global company. When foreign employees take an assignement in the US, many are happy to find there is football being played here where the ball is round and you don't need shoulder pads.  We have Argentinians, Brazilians, English, French, Germans, Nigerians... the list goes on.  And, while our membership is predominantly male, some of our most active and enthusiastic members are female.

But the club is more than just soccer.  We take an active role in the community every year by participating in Paint the Town and Race for the Cure.  We have also adopted a one mile stretch of I-275 between Cherry Hill and Ford Road which we do our best to keep clean.  Other off-the-field social activities include a big summer picnic, a winter banquet, and activities like golf outings and ski trips in between. With soccer as a common interest, many great friendships have been forged in the club since its inception.
